Catholic Identity
The school community of St. Gregory believes the purpose of Catholic education is to develop a living, conscious and active faith that will meet the demands of the gospel in our constantly changing world.
The school is a vital part of the St. Gregory Parish community. St. Gregory School recognizes the parent as the primary religious educator of the child. The school promotes, encourages, and supports our parents in this joint endeavor and welcomes their involvement in the school.
The school tries to balance the intellectual, social, personal, and physical needs of each child’s life with religious development as outlined in the Office of Catholic Education guidelines. The school provides a site for the growth of spirit, mind, and body in which tolerance, integrity, and respect are valued. The school believes that certain values such as charity, honesty, patriotism, and responsibility need to be instilled, modeled, and nurtured in each child as a member of the Catholic community.
St. Gregory fosters high moral expectations through various programs and activities. Students attend and participate in First Friday and Holy Day liturgies. Students receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation three times a year. The school day begins and ends with prayer. The school pledge and mission statement are posted in each classroom and are recited daily. Each month the school community focuses on a specific virtue to discuss and emulate. Students learn about and practice traditional Catholic expressions of faith such as lighting the Advent wreath, May Procession, stations of the cross, honoring the saints and praying the rosary. A multitude of service projects are conducted throughout the year. St. Gregory School works closely with St. Vincent DePaul providing food for the Thanksgiving food drive, a Christmas toy drive, and a general donation drive through the church.
The school climate of St. Gregory reflects its Catholic identity, its concerns for individuals as persons, and its commitment to the global community. The students, faculty, and staff work together to foster this identity. Recognizing the challenges of today’s society, St. Gregory strives to empower our students to experience a life fully Catholic and spiritually alive. We further help them realize that our faith is dynamic; it must be lived, not simply studied.
