The purpose of The Ministry of Ushers is to provide assistance to our fellow parishioners during regular masses and also during special liturgical events. This assistance includes a variety of tasks such as extending greeting to all those that enter, seating people, assisting at communion time, taking up the collection and distributing the church bulletin at the conclusion of all masses. These are only the most visible of our tasks that we perform in God’s service
Sunday Liturgy
Sunday liturgy is a most important liturgy for Catholics. It is the day when we gather as a community to celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus on that first Easter Sunday; it is the day we break open the Word of God in scripture and follow the command of Jesus - "Do this in memory of Me" in the Eucharist. One task of ushers is to prepare the soil for the seed of
God’s word and to kindle appetites for the Eucharistic fellowship.
Among the servants of God who comprise the Body of Christ, ushers are called to provide a very special service and are called to be aware of the ecclesial nature of the celebration, they are Church builders. Thus, ushers play a pivotal role in the Sunday gathering and celebration. They serve those who assemble as the community of Christ.
Consequently, a prerequisite for the ministry of ushers is a commitment and awareness to the presence of Christ living in his Church, together with a deep sense of being instruments to the community and an alertness of having been appointed to assist the community’s growth in the Spirit of Jesus. The warm friendliness and open hospitality of ushers provide an essential ingredient that prepares the assembly to be receptive to the work of the Holy Spirit.
