St. Gregory’s is a large and very busy parish. Each day there are numerous phone calls and people dropping in making inquiries from what time are Masses on the weekends to looking for Mass cards to making personal inquiries. These inquiries are often the first contact people make with the parish.

Normal office hours at the parish are from 8:30pm to 4:30pm but to ensure a more comprehensive service to our parishioners and those who call our church, there are a dedicated group of volunteers who perform desk duty at the rectory every weekday evening Monday to Friday from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00am to 6:00pm. Volunteers answer phones and assist parishioners who come to the Rectory. Instruction and all necessary training to cover the rectory desk is provided.

This ministry plays an important role in our parish as it allows the clergy of the parish to be more available instead of having to man the rectory desk. It allows evening ministries to function and have access to various buildings and rooms they require. It allows people who need to drop off or pick up forms a wider time frame outside normal working hours. It allows people who are making inquiries to get an answer in a quick manner or directed to the appropriate source.

These are some of the blessings this ministry provides for the clergy and people of St. Gregory’s and to the wider community. Volunteers often comment on the satisfaction of playing an important function in our parish community.
